ELIZABETH TAYLOR TO SERVE AS HONORARY CHAIR
FOR BACKLOT FILM FESTIVAL GALA HONORING MICKEY ROONEY

Elizabeth Taylor, considered to be one of the most famous actresses of Hollywood's Golden Age and beyond, will serve as Chair of the Honorary Committee for the Backlot Film Festival Gala Awards honoring the legendary Mickey Rooney on Saturday, October 10, 2009, at the historic Veterans Memorial Building in Culver City.

The beloved children’s classic, National Velvet, skyrocketed the 12-old British-born newcomer Taylor to stardom and co-starred Rooney and Angela Landsbury. The 1944 film was also an overwhelming success at the box office.

National Velvet was directed by five-time Academy Award nominated director Clarence Brown, who was noted for his ability to listen to his actors and respect their instincts. Mickey Rooney also appeared in Brown's 1935 production of Eugene O'Neill's Ah Wilderness which starred Wallace Berry and Lionel Barrymore.

Other classic films in Ms. Taylor’s long and illustrious career include Father of the Bride with Spencer Tracy, A Place In The Sun opposite Montgomery Clift, George Stevens' Giant with Rock Hudson, and Cat On A Hot Tin Roof with co-star Paul Newman.

Ms. Taylor won the Academy Award for her performance in Butterfield 8 in 1960, and again in 1966 when she co-starred with her then husband Richard Burton in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolf.

Ms. Taylor has devoted much of her time and energy to aids-related charities and fundraising. In 1999, she was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire. In December, 2007, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and First Lady Maria Schriver inducted Taylor into the California Hall of Fame located in Sacramento at the California Museum for History, Women and The Arts.
